A New Champion and 3 Medals at National Championships

At the National Championships in Minneapolis, Minn., Zeta Fencing was represented by four fencers. Every single one of them came home with a medal!

First, Regina O’Brien and Violet Michel fenced in Division I women’s sabre. Both fencers are still competing in the cadet division, but they did not hold back fencing the nation’s best senior fencers. Both reached the round of the final 8 and finished in 7th and 8th place.

Then, Andrew Mackiewicz and Eli Dershwitz went all the way in Division I men’s sabre. They both kept winning until they met each other in the final. In the end, Eli beat his teammate and took the championship title, while Andrew finished 2nd with the silver medal. Zoran Tulum, Zeta’s Head Coach and the current US Men’s Sabre National Team Coach, received his coach’s medal from Peter Westbrook.
