… Where Beginners Become Competitors

Zeta Fencing is one of the dominating sabre fencing clubs in the United States and has a strong reputation in the international fencing community. We excel in competitive fencing because we know how to make competition fun. Our pre-competitive class invites beginner fencers to take the next step and explore the world of sabre fencing. The program includes all aspects of training that future competitive fencers need: conditioning, footwork, drills in a group setting, and a lot of bouting to gain fencing experience. As a small fencing club, we can reach outstanding results because we focus on only one of the three Olympic fencing weapons, the sabre. We do not offer pre-competitive instruction for épée or foil fencers.

Pre-Competitive Class

The pre-competitive classes offer an introduction to competitive sabre fencing for intermediate-level fencers. Students need to have mastered all fundamental skills of fencing, that’s why coach’s approval is required to register for this program. The class prepares our youth fencers for Zeta’s high-level competitive sabre fencing programs. Students will stay in this class until they are ready to start competing. The pre-competitive level combines youth 10 and youth 12 fencers, so students age 8-13 can participate.

We invite our pre-competitive fencers to attend 2 classes per week. The class is offered Monday and Wednesday at 5:00-6:30 pm.

All fencing equipment will be provided by the club, but for safety reasons students are required to wear clean fencing shoes, long loose-fitting sweat pants and a T-shirt during class. Please read our full guidelines here.

In order to reach the competitive level of fencing, we recommend a weekly individual lesson with one of our coaches in addition to group classes. Please contact us directly to schedule lessons.

Class Schedule & Fees

Zeta Fencing’s pre-competitive classes run continuously through the fencing season. During the 2018-2019 season, classes will start directly after Labor Day on September 4, 2018 and end on June 30, 2019. Only major holidays will interrupt the class schedule. Zeta Fencing will be closed on Labor Day (September 3, 2018), for the Thanksgiving weekend (November 22-25, 2018), during Christmas/New Year’s break (December 24, 2018 – January 1, 2019) and on Memorial Day (May 27, 2019). Please be aware that this schedule is tentative and minor changes may be made at a later time.

You can download the class schedule for the 2018-2019 season here (PDF).

The monthly class fee for the pre-competitive program is $200, it includes the use of club fencing equipment during classes as needed. Fencers are welcome to use their own fencing equipment.

We offer a family discount for all our classes. The first family member pays the full price, every additional family member receives a 25% discount on class fees. If family members are participating in programs with different fees, the higher-priced program has to be paid in full and the family discount is applied to the lower-priced program.
