BEGINNER & INTERMEDIATE SUMMER PROGRAM

Beginner & Intermediate Fencing is our entry-level Summer Program for new students without fencing experience and for current students of our Beginner and Intermediate Classes, ages 8-12. For fencing drills and bouting, participants will be divided in two groups:

  • Introduction to Fencing: Participants will master the basic skills of Olympic fencing: footwork, blade moves, and the foundations of strategic thinking. They will also learn about the history and traditions of one of the oldest sports in the world and experience the values of true sportsmanship. On the last day, students will fence a tournament on fully equipped fencing strips with Olympic-standard electric scoring equipment. While students will learn about all three disciplines of modern fencing (épée, foil, sabre), they will be fencing with Olympic-style sabres.
  • Advanced Beginners / Intermediate: Fencers with some prior experience (at least one session of Beginner’s or Intermediate Class) will improve and expand their fencing skills in the second group. Besides footwork and technical fencing drills, developing refereeing skills for sabre fencing will be an important focus.

The program runs from 10AM to 3PM every day, which means participants will practice and learn for 4 hours per day (we’ll take a one-hour lunch break to eat and relax). That’s what makes our summer program the perfect way to start fencing. We offer early drop-off (starting at 9AM) and late pick-up (until 4PM) options as well.

Dates

  • August 3 – 7, 2020 (Monday-Friday): 10AM – 3PM

  • What was supposed to be a one-time summer activity is now my daughter’s passion. She was never seriously interested in sports until she discovered fencing. Watching her develop into a strong, mature fencer is breathtaking.
