Two Championship Titles for Zeta Fencers at Junior Olympics

This year, Zeta Fencing sent ten fencers to Junior Olympics in Richmond, VA. They competed for National Titles in the Cadet (Under 17) and Junior (Under 20) age groups in Women’s and Men’s Saber. You can find complete results for all competitions here.

First-Time Cadet Women’s Saber Champion

Cadet Women’s Saber medals: Gold for Violet, Coach’s Medal for Matt Zich, and Bronze for Miranda

On the first day, Violet Michel became the National Champion in the individual Cadet Women’s Saber competition. She is now ranked number 1 on the National Team Points List. Her teammate Miranda Gieg won the Bronze medal after an impressive competition and joined Violet on the medal podium. Two days later, Violet received another medal for her 5th-place finish in the individual Junior Women’s Saber competition.

Junior Team Champions for the Second Year in a Row

The second championship title was won by Laura Donovan, Miranda Gieg, Alexandra Gorman, and Regina O’Brien in the Junior Women’s Saber Team event. After winning the same title last year, team Zeta repeated their success and won their final bout clearly with a score of 45-28.

All fencers were coached by Matt Zich, and we congratulate our new coach to his first two national titles. May there be many more!
